English for the National School of Public Administration and Local Government

The in due time and specialised preparation for the subject of the English language as an examination module of the second stage of the entry examination for the National School of Public Administration and Local Government (ESDDA) assumes a special significance in view of the relatively high fail rate (31 candidates among whom also top scorers and first - ranking students of the first stage), of the limited time set for the examination in relation to the topics (drafting of summary - official note - exercises of specific and global comprehension), of the high standard of thematics (current affairs of politics and the economy), the recently uprated pass line (30/50) and the in principle slow pace of the development of language skills.

Dimitris Loukidelis, Instructor of Legal Translation, experienced in the preparation of candidates for the National School of Public Administration and Local Government, for the Hellenic National School of Judges, and the European Union personnel recruitment examinations (EPSO), undertakes the specialised preparation of candidates for the concours of the National School of Public Administration and Local Government.

English for the National School of Judges

For more than a decade the foreign language has been included in the subjects being examined for the entry examination of the National School of Judges, previously with a weighing of 1.0 and now with a weighting of 0.5 in the assessment of the grade average in the overall grade of the examinations. Dimitris Loukidelis has been the first and until recently the only teacher with long-standing experience and exclusive specialisation in the teaching and preparation of candidates for the National School of Judges with students consistently in the first or top-ranking positions for admission to the National School of Judges. The texts being taught exclusively have a legal character with a focus on reverse translation from Greek into the English language and systematically cover all the branches of law which in accordance with the examination notice are eligible for inclusion in the framework of the examination.

The appropriate and effective preparation for the subject of the English translation constitutes an effective strategic choice for the candidates of the National School of Judges on the grounds that in contrast to the other elective foreign languages (especially German and French), the legal subjects as also the non-legal subject of Essay Writing there is no grading ceiling in the subject of English translation while with a low investment in time and effort of study there is attained the decisive participation of the foreign language in the overall grade average and as a result the maximum certainty in the achievement of the lowest requisite overall grading average of the subjects especially in the administrative branch, but also the high ranking at the first written stage of the entry examination and the subsequent significant comparative advantage in the phase of the final oral examinations for the National School of Judges.
